Chennai City South Division
Geographical Features:
Chennai City South Division was formed on 1.2.1973. It is bounded on the South and West by Chengalpattu Revenue District. The Postal Jurisdiction of South Division extends extends beyond the city limits and is bounded on the South and South West by the Tambaram and Kanchipuram Divisions and on the West, North West and East by City North and City Central Divisions. covers the major part of South Chennai District. The area of the Division is roughly 77.74 sq. Kms and it serves a population of around 10 Lacs.
Chennai City South Division consists of a large number of tourist places and other important places. They include the following.
St. Thomas Mount Church on top of the hill namely the 'Church of Our Lady of Expectation', Little Mount Church built by the Portguese in 1551, Temple at Vadapalani for Lord Muruga, Lord Marudndeeswara Temple at Tiruvanmiyur, Ashtalakshmi Temple and Church at Besant Nagar Beach, the Theosophical Society founded by Madame Blavastsky and Col. H.S, Olcott near Adyar, Raj Bhavan the official residence of the Governor of Tamilnadu, Tech Park in Taramani, Indian Institute of Technology, Anna University, Deer Sanctuary and an amusement park for children which is possibly world's only game reserve in the heart of the City, Gandhi Mandapam, memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, The Golden or VGP Beach near Injambakkam, Kalakshetra, a temple of art and one of country's finest dance schools founded by Rukmini Devi Arundale in Tiruvanmiyur, Dandeeswara Temple and Selliamman Temple in Velacherry, Descarco, the Church at St. Mari's Road and Velanganni Church at Elliot's Beach.
Post Offices & Other Features :
It consists of one Head Post Office and 59 Sub Post Offices under Chennai and Kanchipuram Districts as listed below. Madras Airport Post Office housed inside the Airport Complex is functioning round the clock and the Madras National Terminal inside domestic complex is functioning from 0600hrs to 2100hrs on all the days. Further Adyar PO is authorized to function on all holidays except National Holidays and Sundays. A Speed Post Concentration Centre (SPCC) functioning in the premises of St. Thomas Mount PO building functions round the clock on all days for booking Speed Post articles. The Country's second Automatic Mail Processing Centre (AMPC) located within Airport Complex is functioning round the clock.
